In June 2024, Kai Allen’s option with DJR lapsed, allowing him to move to Grove Racing for the 2025 season. Despite leaving DJR, Allen received vocal support from DJR management for his move to the rival Ford team. The transition was seen as a positive step for Allen’s career, according to DJR co-owner Ryan Story. Following Allen’s departure, DJR focused on securing Brodie Kostecki and his engineering team, as well as prioritizing stability with Will Davison. Allen’s performance at Grove Racing, including a podium finish in Darwin, helped him climb to 12th in the drivers’ championship. Grove Racing could potentially have both Allen and teammate Matthew Payne in Supercars’ new 2025 finals system. Ryan Wood of Walkinshaw Andretti United is also in contention for a top 10 spot, while Davison will need strong results to keep his finals hopes alive.
